Handmade from old-growth, hand-salvaged Sitka spruce burl from an island surrounded by the Tongass National Forest near Sitka, Alaska.
Sitka spruce is normally a species reserved for guitars and vintage airplanes. The wood is usually light in both color and weight—but not this piece! This burl shows at least 200 years of growth in such a small area, and they tree lived for around 400.
The wood is dense, and shows cats eye growths rarely seen in spruce. Zach left a small natural edge in the exterior of the vessel.
This vessel was designed to display as-is or to hold small, special items such as jewelry or your small treasures collected from nature.
