Made from an exceptional, hand-salvaged Red Elderberry Burl from Sitka, Alaska.
It is incredibly rare to find a Red Elderberry burl, especially of this size. After a friend cleared the elderberry from their property, Zach spotted the treasure that may have otherwise gone in the burn pile!
This vessel tells the story of a twisting unconventional bush that grew in perfect response to its surroundings. The broad rim of the vessel shows the growth of individual buds winding outward until reaching the natural edge of the burl. A visitor to Zach's studio remarked that the small bud openings remind them of barnacles, the tenacious little creatures that grow on rocky beaches.
Everything about this piece invites picking-up, and contemplating the many ways Nature works.
