Golden Ambrosia

Width: 12 inches
Height: 4.25 inches

Made from old-growth, hand-salvaged red alder from Sitka, Alaska.

The massive tree this piece was made from grew a mile up a wild forested valley.  The tree lived for about 140 years—much older than the official record of 100 years for red alder.

Zach shaped this piece to highlight the tiny black holes made by ambrosia beetles after the tree died of old age.

The bowl balances on a small base with a lipped rim that sits well in the hand.  It was designed & made as a display piece, but it is also fine to hold special items or fruit.  But be warned!  As with all of Zach's work, people will want to pick up this piece.  It is a natural conversation starter.

It is finished with food-grade tung oil and citrus oil and is 100% food-safe.
