My customers often see things in abstract grain patterns that I miss—but this one is so clear that even I see it!
As I shaped this bowl, I saw a bear take shape in the interior base. I removed just a touch more wood and the bear outline became more clear. After taking a few more razor-thin passes I figured it was as good as it could possible get, so I moved on to sandpaper.
If my house wasn't already so full of bowls, I'd keep this and probably display it upright as you see in the photo. The bowl will make a perfect gift for someone who is fond of bears—whether you give the gift to yourself or someone else.
As with all of my bowls, this was shaped and finished from a single piece of wood and will last for generations with proper care.
