Made from old-growth, hand-salvaged Western Hemlock from the Tongass National Forest in Sitka, Alaska.
A natural void from below a branch interrupts this vessel. Zach left hints of tool marks under a finely sanded finish.
The piece has a unique chainsaw textured live-edge rim and sits on sawn-edge flat base. The rim is naturally warped from the drying process, and speaks to the ability of wood to always find equilibrium. The finely sanded smooth sides of this vessel make for a pleasing texture to hold and explore.
Although this piece was designed for display, it would also beautifully hold a few small Japanese glass floats or similar special items.
